How it all began...
For most, 2020 was a year marked by Covid-19, wildfires, and a cultural shift. For me, it was the year that I started woodworking. What I did not realize at the time was this hobby would become a business adventure.

As an active student at Bryan High School, I had managed to balance many interests over the years including academics, cross country, track, band, and other activities. When the pandemic halted the world, I found myself with extra time. I had a chance to invest myself in learning a new skill, woodworking. What started as a time filler during quarantine, soon became a business of sorts. During the summer of 2021, I knew it would be difficult to balance my school and sports life with my budding business venture. My time would be limited, and I may be spreading myself too thin.

When school kicked off, I felt my schedule and commitments appeared to mesh well. I found time during the week and each weekend to build projects. As meets started and classwork was in full swing, I soon found that I did not have enough time to work in my shop. Instead of becoming defeated, I worked harder on time management. Although some days I felt like quitting, I utilized any free time I could spare to learn my trade and grow my brand. I started social media accounts, made videos, and even went to local yard sales or craft sales. I earned income and reinvested my money back into my business to buy new tools which made completing projects much easier. People started contacting me asking for custom made projects. Simultaneously, I was excelling in school and on the cross-country course, qualifying for the 2021 cross country and track state meets, setting school records, and receiving the All-Ohio Academic Award twice. As my junior year came to a close, I was excited with the prospect of growing my business over the summer.

Despite hurdles like soaring wood prices, not having the proper tools and workspace to complete upcoming projects, school returning to in person learning and the demands of an athletic schedule, I maintained and continued establishing my business. I was willing and committed to pursue my dreams. As a craftsman, I continue to face many challenges each build and must seek solutions despite setbacks. Whether it is cutting something too short, messing up a plan, or not buying enough materials, I find it is imperative to always keep my head up and seek resolutions. That is exactly what I continually strive to do.

Currently, I am attending the University of Toledo. I am studying Business Entrepreneurship and Marketing. I am also running for the University of Toledo on the Men's Cross Country Team. During my free time I am still working on growing my brand and business. I have upgraded my tools, workspace, and learned numerous more skills. From start to finish, the process has taught me valuable lessons about life. The experience has provided me with opportunities to learn, has built my self-confidence, and most importantly, has given me hope for my future. I am excited to continue my story and success as I continue to make some sawdust!
